Building on a long standing relationship with Caudalie, Mapos Architects was asked to design L’appartement Caudalie on Madison, a standalone concept spa in the U.S.
Tucked into a tiny footprint on the 4th floor of a landmarked building, the program includes four dedicated treatment rooms, a reception area, a living room lounge, and all related back-of-house programming necessary for the spa to run smoothly
The design challenge was to accommodate the demanding program elements without compromising the beautiful natural light streaming in from four street-facing windows, and to leverage the existing elements of the space that made it so uniquely New York, like exposed brick walls and the fireplace.
By strategically pulling all of the treatment rooms away from the windows, we were able to achieve a naturally lit gallery and living room style lounge visible immediately as one enters the space. The result is a space that feels light and airy in spite of its highly compact container.
The interiors include furnishings custom-design by Mapos, including the brass and oak shelves and all of the built-in oak millwork.
We hand-selected a rich combination of furnishings and fixtures from Matter, RH Modern, Blu Dot, and Pelle, to finish out the space with an eclectic but tasteful feel appropriate to the founders.
The layered effect of elements creates an engaging, comfortable, but totally unique Caudalie Spa experience that feels more like a home instead of a commercial space.
This approach and resulting feel led to the name, L’appartement Caudalie on Madison.
