Escuela José María Morelos is a collaborative project between escobedosoliz and Gutierrez Arquitectos which was built in November 2017 – December 2018 and located in Santa Isabel Cholula, Mexico.
As a result of the earthquake on 19 September 2017 with the epicenter in San Felipe Ayutla Puebla, cities and towns in the center of the country were seriously affected. In the state of Puebla alone, more than 200 public schools were badly damaged, mostly in rural areas. The project and construction had to be carried out in a very short time, so it was decided to design it with a modular industrial system. It is used as a framework, galvanized steel structure with 3 x 3 x 3 meter modules, is resistant, flexible and adaptable to the different programmatic, geometric and topographic conditions of the two sites, as well as can be replicated for new projects.
Precast concrete panels are used in the walls, also modulated to speed up and facilitate assembly. The exterior covering is made of galvanized sheet and laminated glass on top, which provides the light necessary for proper functioning of the room during the day. Inside we have thermally insulated foamed wood and PVC sheets, providing a warm and sunny environment.
